VAT Compliance Manager

The VAT Compliance Manager role is a hands‑on position with direct responsibility for recurring VAT compliance activities; preparation of the VAT filings are not outsourced.
Main responsibilities:
- Ensure a timely, complete and well-documented tax position for internal and external reporting of all Wilmar Europe Entities
- Take full ownership for the preparation, review and submission of all VAT returns and related filings for Wilmar Europe entities, ensuring these filings are performed in‑house (the preparation is not outsourced) in a correct, complete and timely manner.
- Follow up on settlements with the tax authorities.
- Support the business in evaluating VAT implications
- Keep abreast of new European VAT rules and requirement as well as evolving best practices in compliance control and ensure these are implemented (both in the finance and business processes)
- Analise the administration/administrative systems that support the preparation of tax returns and make proposals for improvement
- Work closely with the IT team to prepare the systems and procedures to ensure compliance with changes in relevant EU tax VAT matters
- Follow up on EU Sales listings and Intrastat including the hands‑on preparation and submission of these filings
- Provide support on VAT audits
- Maintain contacts/conduct consultations with tax advisers and tax authorities
- Assess the business’s future ventures to identify possible compliance risks and provide training to the business and operations departments on a regular basis.
- Implement, maintain and manage a control framework
We are looking for a candidate with:
- Bachelor’s Degree (HBO education) in fiscal, financial and/or management accounting or same level obtained by experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in filing of VAT, EU Sales listings and Intrastat
- Speaking/reading/writing fluent English and advanced Dutch required
- Experience in financial accounting, month end and year end closing (statutory accounting)
- Experience in communications with tax authorities, auditors and tax consultants
- Knowledge of Dutch GAAP and IFRS
- Experience in improving and registering accounting processes
- Experience with ERP systems, SAP would be an advantage
- Advanced level MS Excel
- Experience with E-invoicing is highly advantageous
