Process Engineer

 

Wilmar Oleochemicals B.V. in Rozenburg (Botlek-Rotterdam)
The Rozenburg plant was started in 2014 and produces vegetable fatty alcohols and derivatives by hydrogenation of methyl esters. The fatty alcohols are used as a raw material for surfactant components mainly used in detergents and household and personal care products. In 2020, this plant was debottlenecked leading to a significant increase in production volumes and material movements. In 2021 the Wilmar board has approved several investments on the Rozenburg site broadening the site scope towards fatty acids and derivatives.

Due to this expansion of our activities, we are currently looking for an analytical and hands on:

Process Engineer

This position will evaluate, analyse and design new and existing manufacturing processes, systems, and equipment, as well as structure and develop proposals to optimise these. This includes design, contact with technology providers, testing (plant trials), conduct safety studies, commissioning, updating current system processes and conducting risk assessments. Acts as the primary interface between plant, project, HSE and maintenance.

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop, present, and implement improvement proposals, both on a technical and process level
  • Conduct research to develop new and improved processes for manufacturing
  • Be part of the design/development team in designing new manufacturing processes
  • Draw up process designs (PFD, PID, mass balance, equipment specifications)
  • Design (complex) installations and installation components
  • Compile detailed process descriptions
  • Evaluate processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations
  • Lead or/and provide technical support on engineering projects
  • Conduct process safety studies and reporting
  • Conduct tests (plant trials) and monitor the process performance throughout production
  • Analyse, troubleshoot problems associated with manufacturing processes
  • Have an active role in management of change process
  • Consult with other specialists such as piping engineers, process technologists and electrical engineers
  • Establish safety procedures for individuals working with dangerous chemicals
  • Estimate production costs

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Bachelor or Masters’ degree in chemical/process engineering or equivalent training
  • Three (3) years of experience as a process engineer  
  • Effective communication & analytical skills are essential in both English and Dutch
  • Experience in managing or leading projects in a multi-stakeholder setting
  • Having knowledge and experience in oils & fats and oleochemicals processing and plant construction projects is an added advantage
  • Self-starter, able to work independently but thrive in a team setting
  • Proficiency in MS Office
